Who doesn't love a good game of BINGO? Only, you can't go to a BINGO hall right now; it doesn't scream social distancing. Neither do our normal BIAWC Pub Nights that we are missing so much this summer. In lieu of engaging you as a member, we are challenging you to a game of BIAWC BINGO! You're challenge is to complete 5 tasks across, down or diagonally and we will present you with a prize!
These tasks are designed to get our members better equipped, engaged in learning, updating online information for other members or consumers and communicating with our staff. We hope you are enticed to play, but also hope you have fun in the process.
You can either print the PDF here or contact Angie at firstname.lastname@example.org. Good luck!
Kenneth Nichol to Earn New Certified Builder Designation
Kenneth Nichol of Ethos West Construction, Inc. in Bellingham, WA recently completed all the requirements and earned the BIAW Certified Builder designation, considered the preeminent professional certification available to builders within the home building industry in Washington state. BIAW’s Certified Builder designation is a comprehensive accreditation program with standards that far exceed what Washington law mandates for registered contractors. BIAW will also launch a full-scale consumer marketing campaign to help position Certified Builders more highly in the marketplace, a first for any kind of program offered by BIAW. To earn this designation builders must: Submit References. Certified Builders submit a list of suppliers, subcontractors, and homeowner references for projects completed in the past 5 years for review and verification. Provide Education and Work Experience. Certified Builders provide a list of all of their work experience and education, including professional designations. Comply with a Superior Code of Conduct. They must agree and follow a well-defined set of standards as professionals in the home building industry. Provide Greater Insurance Coverage. All builders must maintain insurance coverage that surpasses the minimum general insurance coverage required by state law. Offer Homeowner Warranties. All BIAW Certified Builders must provide home buyers with a homeowner warranty. Use Clear Contracts. Certified Builders must use contracts that clearly define the construction agreement between the homeowner and the builder. Agree to Mandatory Binding Arbitration. Certified Builders offer arbitration to their homeowners as an alternative to litigation, which reduces cost and time and allows for greater privacy, informality, flexibility and finality. Provide a Homeowners Guide. Certified Builders must provide maintenance guides to all homeowners to help with the care and maintenance of their homes. For more information about the features, rewards, and application review process of the BIAW Certified Builder designation visit our dedicated website.
The Building Industry Association of Whatcom County has refunded more than $1,641,059.42 from the WA Department of Labor & Industries through a Retrospective Rating Program (ROII) run by the BIA’s statewide counterpart, the Building Industry Association of Washington. Retrospective Rating Programs are group insurance pools that allow participating members to reclaim a portion of the workers’ compensation premiums that they pay into L&I if their claim costs at the end of the year come in lower than expected. The goal is to incentivize participants to focus on job site safety and reduce the frequency of injuries and the costs of workers’ compensation claims.
The deadline for October 2020-21 plan year is Friday, August 28th.

"Had a major project done by Z Construction. Was completely pleased with their work. A neighbor who is a retired Navy Seabee and has built small to huge projects watched them work and said their quality was excellent. Perry Zender is the owner and a gentleman you can trust."
