2024 Scholarship Application

The Building Industry Association of Whatcom County is pleased to support learning beyond high school. To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must be pursuing post-secondary (after high school) training or education, involving the trades. They must either own or work for, or be a family member of anyone who owns or works for, a BIAWC member company. Scholarships go toward tuition, fees and books for the upcoming academic year, only at the school or program(s) described below. If you’re applying for acceptance at more than one school or program, please list all of them and explain below. Scholarship monies are distributed directly to the school, not the applicant.

Applicants must complete this form and provide the personal statement described, information on your work and extra-curricular activities as described, 3 current signed letters of recommendation, a current transcript, and a letter of acceptance from your intended school if you are entering a new program. Applicants can fill out the online form below, or download here and mail all required personal statements to:

Academic Achievement

Please attach a copy of your high school and/or post-secondary school transcript, whichever is most recent, or certified documentation of other pertinent academic achievement. If you are entering a new post-secondary academic program or school, please attach a copy of your letter of acceptance if you have received one. Current transcripts are adequate documentation for a program you’re already involved in that you want to continue.

Additional Supporting Materials Required

Please attach a personal statement (also known as a cover letter, or essay) telling us about the career/educational plans you will pursue using this scholarship, and why you should be one of our scholarship recipients for the upcoming academic year. This is your chance to tell us who you are and what you hope to do in the future, and why you need our support. Please give us insight into your financial needs – financial need is considered in weighing scholarship applications.

Please attach a list of your work and community service experience and school activities, giving  the job title/description or activity/office held, the dates of your involvement, and the approximate hours per week this involved.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
All applications and supporting materials must be received by noon, Friday, April 26, 2024, to be considered. The selection committee will make its decision by the end of April. Each applicant will be contacted shortly thereafter. All applicants will be contacted. Scholarships are made only for the program/school described in your application. Applicants who change their school/program after the BIAWC’s scholarship decisions are made will forfeit their scholarships.

DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS
Scholarship checks will be issued directly to the applicant’s school of choice, to be used for tuition, fees and/or books during the upcoming academic year. Scholarships are not available to pay off previous student loans.

SUBSEQUENT SCHOLARSHIPS 
Scholarship awards are made for one academic year only. You are encouraged to reapply for aid in subsequent years!
